ROG Strix x399-e gaming half QCIP without extra packaging.
Yesterday I played a casual Minecraft game and then Ubuntu got really upset, causing the computer to shut down. After restarting, it worked until I opened Ubuntu 20.04. The screen turned grey and any click would cause it to close and reopen repeatedly—like the calendar. When I tried to boot again, fans spun but nothing appeared on the screen. The display light changed to orange, and a strange error appeared: the Q-code was incomplete, jumping straight to a placeholder (8_). I checked code 80 online, wondering if it might be related, but there were no discussions about AI Suite interfering with BIOS. I had no ASUS software installed and hadn’t used the AI Suite before. I changed the graphics card, tried different RAM sticks in each slot with CMOS cleared, reset CMOS, removed all drives, and even disconnected the CPU. The only time it didn’t react was when I took the CPU out. This system had been running smoothly for almost six months until a few faulty USBs on the back caused issues that were resolved by updating BIOS. Here’s my setup: Super weird because everything worked fine before, except for those occasional dead USBs. If anyone knows where to find parts locally or online, it would be a huge help. Thanks! Cheers!
This board lacks post codes beginning with 8. Begin by testing each stick separately in the first A1 memory slot to check for posting. Alternatively, use a different Q code.
Okay ive now tried every ram slot with each of the four different sticks of ram no luck and no alternative q code.
The board seems to be damaged in some way. You might attempt a BIOS recovery or flashing. If those options fail, return the motherboard for repair.
