rmation about single player and multiplayer modes in games.
The newest Call of Duty Modern Warfare has been released and it offers a solid single-player campaign... although it's brief. This made me wonder, the game is priced at full price for 60 USD... which seems fair if you're looking for the entire package, but what about the short single-player version? It can be quite annoying. So I started thinking... could there actually be a way to purchase just the single-player part at a lower cost, say 30 USD? The game would then have its multiplayer features turned off, and you could pay an extra 30 USD to access the campaign if you decide later. You'd get a "relaxed" single-player experience without the hassle of spending for a feature you won't use. It's frustrating when you feel you should pay full price for something you won't utilize. Would you be interested in companies offering such a discount for these games?
Well, there are a few points to consider. Although this seems like a solid approach, there are alternative methods as well. For instance, people who pay for SP can get access to MP but might only be able to watch a couple of matches before needing to spectate one, after which they can play again. This kind of trial system rather than a full block could make buyers more satisfied and likely encourage others to try MP as well. This strategy might be more effective on consoles, while on PC many users would simply switch to other options due to the larger library or more frequent sales.
They definitely didn't want to lose the other $30. You don't like having multiple players, though luck helps. I'd really appreciate another single-player storyline, perhaps in a DLC.
They likely implemented this feature in at least one other CoD title, except it was the opposite—allowing you to purchase the multiplayer version without buying the single-player one, which aligns better with sales strategy since more people are interested in just the multiplayer aspect.
It has been a while since I played a game that combined solid singleplayer and multiplayer features. The last title that offered both was Battlefield Bad Company 2, which was about ten years ago. Nowadays, I usually keep my singleplayer and multiplayer achievements separate.
Most games eventually drop at half price. Then they reduce it again to half of that amount. It's easy to wait when there are many other games available to keep you busy until then. There are also legitimate ways to purchase games at half price or less just a few days after release. Breaking a game into separate SP and MP versions would hurt profits, so developers probably don't do that. They still consider their games as art and sell the same game repeatedly to people who are willing to pay $64.
It would be nice if they split them. If it's more affordable, it attracts more players, making the player base bigger for multiplayer. In fact, it seems better if they created games just for single-player and only multiplayer games, as some developers do now.
