I own an Rift S that still works well, though it shows signs of wear from age. Since I bought it used, it has some damage from heavy use. My controller has stick drift so bad it’s hard to walk forward or scroll smoothly—really frustrating. Someone suggested using a contact cleaner, which might help. My face gasket, plate, and foam assembly are all missing. If you have any suggestions for a replacement assembly or know where to find good Rift S controllers, I’d really appreciate it! I’ve looked on eBay, but replacing both hands and parts could be expensive. Maybe it’s better to get another Rift S or a smaller Quest 2 with a link cable instead. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Meta has stopped making the rift s since the quest 2 release, meaning no official replacements are available. I also owned a rift s, which is a solid VR headset, but one day it just ceased functioning. The Oculus software failed to recognize the display port cable and Oculus support didn’t assist. I ended up purchasing a Valve Index if you can afford it.

I understand used isn't always the best choice, but I've been thinking about looking for a used Vive on Facebook because it offers more upgrade possibilities down the line. For example, switching to knuckles or valve controllers would give me better options later, especially if I decide to go full body. The indexing is helpful, but it might be too expensive for my budget.

VR in general is a financially demanding pastime. That’s why I didn’t start it myself. The main issue isn’t my budget for a VR headset, but rather the lack of space. I’d have to move into a larger apartment to have room to use it effectively. This seems like a major hurdle for many people entering VR.
