The Rift S is receiving varied feedback as I explore PC VR options. While my system is powerful enough for gaming, it’s not optimized for high-end headsets like the Vive Pro or Valve Index, which means I’m leaning away from those choices. The Rift S still holds some appeal, but its capabilities seem to be comparable to the base model. Is there room for improvement in the Rift S, or does the Vive offer a more compelling experience?

Choose the more affordable options available
The technology is still in its early stages, and even the priciest headsets indicate this. You won’t miss much if you opt for a more budget-friendly model

Rift S costs $100 less than the Vive. Still, there are compromises, and I lack sufficient information to determine which is more advanced.

Choose the more affordable option; you'll appreciate it once the excitement of VR fades and it becomes just another item on a shelf.

The Rift S IMO is a minor upgrade, while the original version looks more attractive. The same applies to the OG vive. The Index will definitely offer the best experience, though it comes with a price.

Honestly, go for the OG Rift, you can find them on some sites for less than $300 and they're perfect, I've tried WMR, VIVE, RIFT, and RIFT S. The best bang for your buck is for sure the OG Rift, I got mine brand new for $260 it came with two base stations, the touch controllers which are probably the best ones on the market until the knuckles come out, a wireless Xbox one controller, the button attachment for guitar hero, several free games and of course the headset. I bought it probably 4 months ago and play it almost every day. With VR being in it's infancy and if you haven't played it yet you might not want to go all out or spend more than what you can on it. I've had a couple friends get a VIVE or the VIVE PRO get it hooked up and realize it makes them incredibly motion sick or it isn't what they expected. If I were you I'd look for a steal on the OG Rift and call it good. If you really want the higher resolution and all that jazz go for the Rift S, I hate the VIVE controllers, the Touch controllers the Rift and Rift S have are a little small but much more comfortable and the touch sensors are nice.

I haven't found any options under $300 yet, if you know of any websites you'd like me to check, please share them. I took that into account initially.
I'm familiar with VR since my family uses a PSVR headset, so I understand what I'm dealing with.

I didn't receive it online; I purchased it from a nearby Best Buy.
