Are shielded cables still needed? Or what’s the best approach? We’re swapping the main cable up to the attic since some walls have been damaged and the existing RG59 has been around for 20 years. We intend to install a conduit inside the wall for easier future wiring, possibly for an attic antenna—though we’re still deciding if it’s worthwhile. The reason we’re changing the RG59 is that our internet passes through it. In the attic, I’ve connected the RG59 via a barrel connector to an RG6 cable we installed previously. My dad also placed three RG6 cables in the attic and used a splitter on the RG59. Now that walls are down, replacing that cable should help things run smoothly.
Standard rg6 provides sufficient insulation, making it more insulated than rg59. Test it out and verify before finalizing. For longer runs, consider adding a signal booster, though it should function well if it did before.
