I have only been on here since new year and been amazed by how nice and helpful everyone is. Thanks again. I've used a lot of advice and read a lot in forums as well as reviews, articles, etc. I finally came to a point where my build is almost there. It's supposed to be mainly for gaming for my 15 year old son. I'm looking for a reasonable OC on CPU and GPU as well as SLI in the future.
I put an asterix in front of parts I already own. Quite a few were bough either second hand or were used in my previous pc (bar psu, ssd). The rest I'm going to buy brand new.
Here goes:
*CPU: i5-4690k
Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Motherboard: Asus Z97 Pro Gamer ATX
*Memory: 1x4GB Kingston HyperX Blu DDR 1600 (1.65V) CL9
1x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X Series DDR-1600 CL8
*SSD: 250GB Samsung 850 EVO
*HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda
*GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SC
Case: Corsair SPEC-03
*PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 750W
*Optical drive: DVDRW
*Additional case fan: Arctic F12 PWM rev 2
My main concern is whether the heatsink will fit when used with this case/motherboard/memory combination.
Any criticism or tips are welcome.
If possible at all I'd rather stick to remaining parts or at least the budget. It's already been stretched too many times. Here's a link in case you are thinking I could get something else for comparable price

Thank you in advance

Take a glance at Fractal Design Define S or Fractal Design Define R4. Both offer excellent value, providing strong airflow and effective noise reduction.

Your build is acceptable, but the heatsink won't fit properly. The SPEC-03 allows coolers up to 157 mm, while the Hyper 212 Evo is 159 mm. You need to select a smaller air cooler or a liquid cooler.

Yeah, it wont fit, better go for Raijintek or PallasZalman CNPS8900 Quiet but they won't provide you with enough cooling for hard overclocking, though they are enough for like 4.6ghz at reasonable temp

I wasn't anticipating that. The water cooling aspect was completely overlooked. I considered the Hyper 212 Evo or Noctua NH-D14, but because of budget reasons, I opted for Cooler Master. It seems Noctua is even more substantial, so it appears I should look into a different case. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Thank you for your feedback. Would you like any recommendations for budget water coolers or would it be better to opt for a larger case? I chose the case with good airflow because that was my preference.

It seems more affordable to obtain a solid liquid cooling setup similar to the NZXT’s Kraken X61. Probably the most effective choice, but upgrading the cooler and case will not significantly boost performance.

Fortunately, I haven't purchased the case or cooler yet, allowing me to continue my research for another day. Appreciate all the recommendations.
I have a significant amount of reading ahead.
