Same concept, mega sounds better than ultra though. It would be helpful to understand how Mega textures function since it seems to adapt to the mesh level, which is quite challenging on a 2D plane. Probably they handle textures in a 3D space, which is a great approach. I just thought about noticing how much the texture gets compressed—it looks distorted when you get near it.

This year's top game feels completely overrated, especially with the poor quality of Watch Dogs' gameplay. The game engine by idtech5 is really disappointing, and Carmack should probably avoid gaming altogether—better focus on launching satellites instead.

Higher quality textures > lower resolution random ones. Memory issues... yeah, I prefer this.
