I'm attempting to install an MS-7A02 motherboard from a HP ProDesk 400 G3 into a new case. Most of the setup is finished, but I need the pinout diagram for the RESET SW cable (pin 6 blank). I understand it can be connected using jumpers in positions 8 and 10. Can I use the RESET SW cable directly there, or should I avoid it and just use a jumper? Thanks ahead to anyone who helps.

In a computer, reset and power work by connecting a signal wire to ground. The chipset detects that the signal is pulled low (towards ground) and does things accordingly (hold power for at least 4 seconds = instant shut down, one quick push on power = go to sleep/stand-by unless you change behavior in bios). So connecting reset button across 10 and 8 instead of that jumper doesn't make sense, because the jumper is a continuous connection between 10 and 8, the button would be always open (no connection) until you push the button. If you were supposed to put the reset between 10 and 8, then the jumper wire currently there would have kept your system in a permanent reset, never working, so for sure it's not that. The motherboard may simply NOT have a reset functionality, if there's no reset button on the case. The connector is proprietary to HP, so they don't have to implement reset. The user guide/manual also calls the connector PB/LED as in power button + led , see page 46 ( 54/131) from : http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04924099.pdf

Thank you so much for the reply, that has really helped. As it is a new case and an older mobo that explains it, I will get a jumper and proceed as planned. Thank you again.

Reject the suggestion and keep the pins accessible for proper functionality.
