Hey there, I see you're thinking about switching back to Linux. Given your AMD GPU and budget constraints, it sounds like you're facing some compatibility hurdles. You're exploring SUSE Studio for driver packaging, but haven't had luck getting builds from their site. Maybe try checking alternative repositories or community forums for support. Let me know if you'd like more tips!

Do you have components added to openSuse? Would it work better with built-in graphics and then setting up GPU drivers, followed by a restart to utilize the GPU?

Consider Manjaro, it offers a choice to start with custom drivers from a live source.

I suggest considering systems like Fedora25 or Korora25. They feature a more recent kernel that may perform better with non-commercial AMD GPU drivers. Alternatively, any other semi-stable rolling release distros using later kernels than 4.4.x.x LTS could be suitable. Regarding Open Suse, there are two primary variants: Leap and Thumbleweed. One is Long Term Support while the other is a rolling release.

You're experiencing issues with your Mint installation on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, specifically with the AMD drivers. It seems the official drivers might be outdated, possibly stuck at 14 LTS. You could try updating to a newer version of the AMD drivers for better compatibility.

Usually I handle that, but the issue here is that I'm running on an AMD APU.

Assume you're running Mint 18. Did you manage to activate your GPU without needing a third-party driver?

It functioned outside the expected parameters without any problems. Worse, I'm also testing an 8350.

Sure, I understand. I'm going to go ahead and download it now and try installing it.

It works when it boots from USB, but if you run into issues afterward, it’s likely a configuration problem. You added iommu=soft to the GRUB prompt to fix network connectivity, which took you several days to get right.
