Hey there! You're about to wrap up your build, so let's talk about the best OS for your rig. The retail version is great for general use, while an OEM might be better if you're planning to upgrade parts later. As for the OS, home is usually the safest choice, but pro could be handy if you're diving into advanced settings. Thanks for asking!

You probably don't need the Pro edition and should choose the one that lets you change PCs, as it will be more cost-effective over time.

The original prebuilt model included an OEM W10, and I retained the key after swapping motherboards.

You can disable much of the telemetry data, though not on the home version. Just purchase a budget key from eBay—they function. I believe Linus even posted a video explaining this.

They are all retail products. Yet, I secured some for free through my university. Certain institutions have partnerships with Microsoft to provide students access to free or reduced software, including various Windows editions, Windows Server, Visual Studio, Visio, SQL Server, and additional tools.

To manage Windows settings with precision using the group policy editor, you need Pro access.

You need strong protection like Windows Defender and other security tools. Windows Home isn't sufficient for that. @Delicieuxz @Christophe Corazza
