Results show reduced performance in CinebenchR23 with PBO2 activated.
I'm reaching 90°C and throttling whether PBO2 is active or not. I thought because the curve is lower, power usage should result in higher scores. I'm using a Scythe Fuma 2 cooler at around 30°C ambient temperature—does that really affect things? PBO settings and performance below. Anyone have insight on why my results are worse with PBO than without it? Am I making a mistake? PBO2 Settings: Core 0 -19, Core 1 -8, Core 2 -14, Core 3 -24, Core 4 -19, Core 5 -2, Core 6 -21, Core 7 -17, Boost Override +200 PPT. TDC 95, EDC 140, Cinebench R23 Multicore PBO2 14577 vs Stock 14498 Singlecore PBO2 1549 vs Stock 1566.
You're referring to something that seems like it should work by magic. Turn off the positive boost override and attempt again—if you're reaching 90°C, you're hitting thermal limits. Your best bet is to lower your PBO settings instead of raising them or upgrade your cooling solution.
It seems there might be some confusion about how your system works. The single-core boosts to 5GHz+ are likely improving your single-core speed, which could mean your performance is better even at the same power draw. The Curve Optimizer adjusting power per clock suggests efficiency gains, so you're probably getting more output without increasing energy use. You're not getting an error—just a bit of clarification on how these features interact.
It isn't even stable, believe me. If it's reaching 90 with the stock power limits on Hen, you definitely need to focus on cooling. You should raise ppt, tdc, and edc to effectively use CO and handle the override properly.
You're adjusting the BIOS settings incorrectly. Your results of 16096 with a 5700X (similar to a 5800X) suggest mismatched configurations. Each setting affects performance differently based on your specific chip, cooling, RAM, and thermal characteristics. Experiment carefully, track metrics like temperature, clock speeds, and frame times after each change.
Honestly, the main CO settings are the most reliable approach, as @Vishera demonstrates. I also applied global -30 and +200 on my 5500, but the RAM stability there is just as uncertain as Wonder Egg Priority Episode 13, so I revert it to -20 like most users do. So definitely try -20 again—but keep in mind: PBO on isn’t a magic fix. It still behaves more like Intel’s power limit handling.
