Restore Server 2012 Macrium image on a VM Using a virtual machine, recover the Macrium image for Server 2012.
I’m trying to set up a virtual machine to work with a Macrium Reflect image, originally from a Dell PowerEdge server running Server 2012. My aim is to build a virtual replica of that server so I can practice domain transfers before switching to a real machine. I’ve followed several steps: made a Rescue Media ISO, built a full OS image with Macrium Reflect, set up disk partitions, and used Hyper-V to spin up a VM. The VM is running on an external HDD with the ISO, a separate HDD for the VHDX, and another HDD for the actual VM. I’ve booted from the ISO, restored the image, and tried using the ReDeploy tool. Now I’m stuck because the Windows Server 2012 isn’t booting, which makes me think there might be a driver problem. I’m unsure what’s missing or incompatible. Could anyone offer advice on how to fix this? I’d appreciate any tips that would help me get the restoration going smoothly. Thanks!
You're hiding the domain controller, just add a new DC, shift the roles, and downgrade the old one. Are you sure it won't boot, does it attempt to start? Do you see a blue screen? Is this an UEFI or legacy installation?
