Hi! I looked into some old USB drives with old photos. I noticed many images on one drive looked similar (like the LEGO picture of my son). Do you know if there are tools to fix those photos? The strange part is that after deleting thumbnails, the images appear briefly normal but then revert to the LEGO look—especially the photo with the hole. When I connected it to an old Windows XP PC (using Windows 8.1), the thumbnails worked fine, but I couldn’t open the photos. Someone might help! I’ve tried photorec already, but it didn’t work.

Yes, you have the right tool ready to access them.

Yes, certain photos appear on the same USB drive. I use Windows Photo Viewer to view them. I was unable to open the images on my Windows XP PC but succeeded with Windows 8.1.

They might have accidentally removed them, so try Recuva to recover https://www.piriform.com/recuva. Be careful not to power off your device, or you could lose unrecoverable photos. Edit: The free version works, but the paid one only offers updates and isn’t worth it.

I doubt my involvement since I can easily view the (unreliable) images in a directory, though it might be worthwhile. If anyone has an idea, feel free to share.

Consider USB issues. You can visit your local store or online site and request a recovery option.

I completed the scan and here is the outcome. Privacy concerns led to blurring the file names. http://i.imgur.com/lb12HDn.png Only two photos were identified, though there are approximately 200 images affected. EDIT: I plan to visit the store where I purchased them about seven years ago to inquire about possible solutions.

From the picture it looks like the files were replaced or the USB format was altered. Could you run a deep scan in Revo? Have you installed the latest USB driver?

Apologies for the delayed reply. - I'll give it a shot now. The screenshot comes from the detailed analysis. -How did you know that?

Open a computer, click right-click, select Hardware, choose your device, then click Update Driver. Tips for preventing future data loss: avoid dropping the USB and use the safe unplug option.
