I'm still unsure where to start. This has never happened before in my 26 years of PC setup and troubleshooting. Now I'm completely stuck on fixes. Sometimes the screen goes dark instantly, and I see the motherboard lights flashing like a restart. I don't understand why. The first event viewer says "metadata staging failed," so I fixed it in the registry. Now I keep getting messages about a screenshot and something about an NV display container or similar. The file path points to system32—does that matter? Let's go through what I've tried. I tested the RAM twice, passed both times with memtest, DDU, sfc scan, and installed Windows from scratch. I removed the GPU, connected it directly to the motherboard via riser cable, and everything worked again. The GPUZ shows x16 4.0, which seems fine. I reset the BIOS to default. All I had was an Expo on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is getting more frustrating every day. My specs are: 7800X3D, 4080, 2x16GB Corsair Dominator 6000MHz, Lian Li 1000W EDGE.
motherboard? is there a new BIOS available? ok but like 99.99% this is a ram/bios compatibility issue, happens all the time. your best bets are: bios update different ram while memtest isn't irrelevant, it's also not very relevant, it's specifically bad at finding these incompatibilities, it's more testing if your ram is defective, and it probably isn't.
Interesting. The ASRock X670E Steel motherboard is solid. I'm running BIOS 2.10, which means updates are possible. My RAM might already be compatible with the QVL for this board. I’m considering replacing it with a different brand just to test if the BIOS resolves the issue. Thanks for the advice. I’ll give it a shot. It’s reassuring knowing there aren’t any major problems, especially since I’m using a custom water loop. UPDATE: I’ve updated BIOS to the latest version for my board (3.08). I see Win11 24H2 is working well and newer chips perform better. I’ll wait until my PC restarts or freezes without input before making changes. So far everything seems fine.
