I'm having a serious problem updating to windows 10, my update is downloaded and it asks me to update but when I click "Restart now" in windows update, it literally restarts the PC back into windows 8 and asks me to update. What is happening? It seems as if it thinks there is an update that needs to be installed but that update is conflicting with the update install of win10. Any help would be great since I can not only not get windows 10 I can't update windows 8.1 (Latest patches) because it says it needs to restart my pc and finish installing current updates before dealing with new ones.

Get the Windows 10 media creation tool from the bottom of the page. Use USB as the boot device. After installation, open the flash drive and follow the setup steps. That’s exactly what I followed.

It went wrong. Changes happen like that. You could reinstall Windows 8 and then update it, or you could download the ISO file and perform the manual update yourself. Just remember, skipping any steps can cause more problems.

Using the media creation feature and selecting "Upgrade now" on your PC will remove any previously saved Windows 10 files from your C: drive and then re-download them. This process seems to successfully complete the update. Thanks!

If it doesn't function properly again or during an upgrade attempt, ensure all current drivers are updated for your hardware (Windows 8 drivers). It's recommended to install only essential drivers—such as the graphics card driver, audio chip drivers, CUDA, and PhysX—for devices like Nvidia graphics cards. For Nvidia users, check the box for a clean installation (your system may need a restart). Some manufacturer drivers have bugs that block upgrades; newer versions should fix this. Remove any non-Microsoft anti-virus or other security software before proceeding, as they can disrupt the upgrade process. Once in Windows 10, reinstall them.
