Hi, I received a Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe drive. After installing it with Windows and my main game, everything loads quickly. However, when I try to boot, the system keeps asking me to reboot or choose a boot device. If I select the NVMe drive during boot, it works fine. But since I reinstalled Windows using an old USB drive from about four years ago, I’m stuck with a very outdated version. Updates aren’t available through the Windows Store, and even using the Update Assistant causes errors that require a reboot. When I go to boot and select the drive, I’m taken back to the initial setup menu. Please help! Thank you for your time.

Open the BIOS settings and adjust the boot sequence so your SSD is listed first. It seems the system is attempting to start from another location. (If you notice a boot manager window, prioritize placing it at the top.)

Open BIOS settings and choose NVMe as the primary boot device. It seems the system is checking your USB drive first, which you used when installing Windows, or it’s scanning a former SATA port that once ran the OS.

You're asking about the meaning of "default" in the context of your MSI Z170A Krait gaming setup. It seems you've adjusted the boot order in various places to prioritize the NVMe drive, but it's still not working and you're missing a boot manager. The note from March 19, 2020, by haruvfriedman MSU to MSI might be relevant here.

Check your BIOS version and compatibility with NVMe drives. Also, confirm whether you're using Legacy+EUFI or only UEFI settings.

I restored the BIOS configuration then adjusted the boot order once more and it now functions properly. Thank you very much for your assistance—I’m glad I found someone who’s willing to help! Big GrinDD
