Over the past several weeks, I’ve been struggling to get my recently assembled computer functioning correctly; problems continue to arise. After discovering a defective power supply unit (PSU), I swapped it out for a replacement that proved reliable. However, when I tried to configure the system using a breadbox design, I received five beeps, indicating a CPU issue based on standard beep code interpretations. Replacing the motherboard – due to severely bent pins requiring straightening – did not resolve the problem, and the same error code persisted. Subsequently, I returned the processor and obtained a new one, yet the five beeps remained.

SPECIFICATIONS:
CPU: Intel Core i5-8400
Motherboard: Gigabyte H310M A
RAM: Patriot DDR4 8gb (x2) 2400 MHz
PSU: Corsair CX 550W 80+
GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 SC
Cooler: Cooler Master Masterliquid Lite 240
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I was merely expressing a wish. Do you believe you’ve completed these actions?

If you’re encountering this problem on a different thread, this motherboard has a RAM module with locks only on one edge. Inserting the RAM as you typically do and simply locking one side will prevent it from recognizing the memory, leading to this error. You must first force the non-locking side of the RAM down firmly, then place the other side in and lock it securely.

This isn’t documented in the manual or online resources; however, inserting the RAM in a standard manner causes one side to rise too far.

Thank you for your prompt response! The motherboard indeed has RAM clips on both sides; however, I nonetheless attempted to lock in place from a single side initially and continued to receive the five beeping error.

Affirmative. That was my initial investigation when the system failed to load. I haven’t yet installed the motherboard within its enclosure; instead, I’ve been temporarily housing it on cardboard. Since I lacked a motherboard speaker, I acquired one, and subsequently, I’ve been experimenting with various troubleshooting methods.

The repair was unsuccessful; the pins were misaligned, metal was in an incorrect location, and it was deemed unusable.
