Resolved: Seeking assistance from a computer expert.
Greetings, everyone.
I require assistance with my setup. Here are my components:
Processor: Intel i3-8100
Motherboard: ASRock Z370 Pro4
Graphics Card: Gigabyte 1060 3GB
Power Supply Unit: Cooler Master 650W Bronze
Memory: 8GB DDR3 3200MHz HyperX Fury
Case: Nexus Matx
Fans: RGB Thermaltake X3
Solid State Drive: WD Green 280GB
My issue is that most of my components are new, except for the motherboard and graphics card, which are used. Do I need to flash the BIOS using a USB drive? And should I install Windows 10 via USB as well? Also, could you recommend some reliable antivirus software options? Thank you for your guidance.
Microsoft Windows 10 is linked to your DIGITAL KEY (corresponding to your Microsoft MSN email account) when you access it on a Windows 10 PC or install it on a system where you originally purchased the software.
If your device lacks Windows 10, you may be able to install it without charge if you previously owned a copy on another device that is no longer in use.
*If you possess such a license, I will provide instructions for installation. Otherwise, you’ll need to purchase a new license – and this may not include the installation files.
Installation Instructions:
1. Insert a USB drive with at least 8GB of space into a functioning computer.
2. Download and run the Microsoft Media Creation Tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software.../windows10
3. Select:
a) “for other PC”, and
b) “W10 64-bit” (typically, you’ll have had this version previously or will be purchasing a license – either Home or Pro is…
Was the vendor unsuccessful in setting up Windows for you? What source did you acquire this device from – a retail store, eBay, Craigslist, or something else?
You generally do not require a BIOS upgrade. However, if a BIOS update offers enhanced compatibility that you need, and it's currently functioning correctly, then do not implement it.
Regarding antivirus software, Windows Defender is typically adequate if you exercise caution when browsing the internet.
If not, a recommended free antivirus solution can be found here:

Microsoft’s Windows 10 is linked to your Microsoft account (specifically, your MSN email address) when you activate it on a PC or install it from a previously purchased copy.
However, if your system doesn’t currently have Windows 10 installed, you may be able to install it without charge if you held a valid license for Windows 10 on another device that’s no longer in use.
*If you possess such a license, I can provide instructions on how to install Windows 10. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a new license, which may not include installation media.
Here’s how to proceed:
1. Insert a USB drive with at least 8GB of storage into a functioning computer.
2. Obtain and execute the Microsoft Media Creation Tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software.../windows10
3. Select:
a) “For another PC,” and
b) “Windows 10 64-bit” (this is the most probable choice, especially if you’ve already obtained a license or plan to purchase one – either Home or Pro is supported).
4. Allow the download process to complete at your convenience, depending on your internet speed.
5. On the target system where you intend to install Windows 10, disconnect all drives except for the one containing the operating system.
6. Boot from the USB drive to initiate Windows 10 installation.
7. Delete any existing partitions on the solid-state drive (SSD) when prompted – this should display as unallocated space if it’s a new device.
8. Enter the login details associated with your previous Windows 10 account, if applicable (have these readily available).
9. Complete the installation process.
10. Navigate to Start > System > “Updates…” and wait for all updates to be applied fully.
11. Download and install the latest graphics driver from NVIDIA’s website.
12. Install any other necessary drivers as needed.
13. Consider adding a hard drive if you wish to play games, and strongly consider backing up your Windows SSD regularly – ideally using a tool like Acronis True Image for automated, weekly backups.
14. Address antivirus concerns later. Windows 10 includes basic protection; seeking out deals for additional software is recommended, particularly if you have a robust backup strategy.
(Note: It’s advisable to connect your monitor directly to the graphics card, rather than the motherboard – please disregard any skepticism.)
Initiate a memory diagnostic test using MEMTEST86 by accessing it from a CD/DVD or USB drive created at www.memtest86.com. Perform this test before installing Windows 10, as it assesses your DDR4 memory module.
