I’m completely frustrated with these problems and struggling to resolve them. My computer was assembled approximately in August 2018, and beginning around mid-November, I began noticing that many of my games are experiencing noticeable lag. Several titles – including Fallout 4 – frequently stutter, while others like DOOM 2016 and Black Mesa exhibit stuttering less often. Counter Strike Global Offensive displays a peculiar pattern, stuttering for the initial minutes before returning to stable performance. Despite consistently low frame drops (typically only a decrease of 3 fps), the visual effect is a significant delay, appearing as roughly half-second to one-second pauses.

I've attempted the following troubleshooting steps, all without success:

- Conducting a virus scan using Malwarebytes and Windows Defender to eliminate malware.
- Monitoring CPU and GPU utilization and temperatures, which remain within acceptable parameters.
- Disabling the Windows Game DVR feature.
- Deactivating the Microsoft Game Bar.
- Configuring the NVIDIA control panel to prioritize maximum performance settings.
- Setting Windows power options to ‘Maximum Performance’.
- Reinstalling my display drivers completely using DDU.

Unfortunately, these attempts have not resolved the issue, and it continues to persist. Additionally, I’m encountering a separate problem – some non-gaming applications, such as Razer Synapse, the Bethesda Launcher, and Corsair iCue, seem to reduce my desktop’s refresh rate from its native 144fps down to 60fps, resulting in brief instances of screen dimming and rapid brightness fluctuations. I haven’t found any relevant information online, nor do I understand how to address this issue.

My system specifications are as follows:

Windows 10 Home (64-bit)
ASUS ROG STRIX z370-E Motherboard
Intel i7-8700K CPU (stock speed)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (stock speed)
1TB Samsung EVO M.2 NVMe SSD
32 GB RAM
Operating at 1440p with a 144Hz refresh rate.

I’m considering contacting my PC manufacturer due to the three-year warranty, but I want to explore potential software solutions before pursuing that option.

Specify your monitor's refresh rate by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting display settings, ensuring the appropriate frequency is selected.

Furthermore, what connection method are you utilizing – DisplayPort or HDMI? Cable choices can occasionally impact performance, although this is uncommon; testing with a different cable may help determine if one is causing an issue, provided you're satisfied with the current cable’s quality.

Enable video synchronization and graphics card synchronization (if supported). Within your task manager, configure your game to run with high or real-time priority. Provide your temperature readings and performance percentages during gameplay.

winks42 :
Turn v-sync and g-sync (if available) on. In task manager set your game to high or real-time priority. What are your temps and percentages while in use.
Thanks for the response.
V-Sync and G-Sync are already on. In use temps and percentages as follows:
CPU Usage: 40%
CPU Temp: 60°C
GPU Usage: 70% - 90%
GPU Temp: 70°C
I'll try changing the priorities for games in the task manager and will respond with how it goes.

Determine your monitor's refresh rate by right-clicking the desktop and accessing display settings, ensuring the appropriate frequency is selected.

Furthermore, specify whether you're utilizing DisplayPort or HDMI for your connection. Cable type might subtly influence performance—though this is uncommon—you can test this by substituting a different cable if you believe your current one is performing optimally.
