Resolved: Enhance my aged device.
Hello everyone! I’m a newcomer, so please excuse me if I utter something foolish or repeat what’s been mentioned previously.
😄
I'm considering an upgrade to my computer, which is quite outdated as you’ll notice. However, I'm uncertain where to begin with this process. Here are my current specifications:
MSI Z97 Gaming 9 AC (it’s approximately one year old since my previous machine suddenly stopped functioning)
i7-4790K 4GHz, not overclocked (I lack experience with overclocking, so I didn't want to take any risks)
Gigabyte GTX 970 Gaming G1
16GB DDR3 1600MHz
Budget: Approximately €500.
What component should I upgrade first? Or should I wait for new product releases? I believe upgrading the graphics card would be my initial choice, but perhaps that's a misguided idea and I should begin with the memory – I’m feeling uncertain! Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
😄
Thank you!!
Upgrading your graphics card would substantially improve gaming results. A model such as an RTX 2060 or RX 5600 XT, costing approximately $300, could provide roughly twice the visual power of a GTX 970. Alternatively, you could postpone your purchase, as Nvidia and AMD are anticipated to release updated graphics cards within the coming months. Your existing i7 processor is likely still capable for a while longer, since many games operate effectively with a 4-core, 8-thread central processing unit, and its performance per core is not significantly behind...

You might consider holding off until new releases from Nvidia and AMD, which are anticipated in the coming months.
Your current i7 processor should remain usable for a while, since most games currently run adequately with a 4-core, 8-thread central processing unit. Furthermore, its performance per core is competitive with more recent processors.
Regarding memory, you don't need to upgrade that either. 16GB is more than sufficient for contemporary games, and you'll require a different type of memory (DDR4 or later DDR5) when you eventually upgrade your processor.
