Wow, that completely surprised me! It’s incredibly perplexing to consider; I was under the impression my current system was pretty good, but an additional $1200 would significantly enhance it. Seriously though, I’m probably going to try and trade what I currently possess – the motherboard, RAM, and graphics card – to increase my funds and acquire something substantially improved. Unless there’s a significant reason I'm overlooking, I want to proceed with this plan because I was nearly ready to dedicate my entire investment towards a new graphics card.

I understand completely. I often wish I hadn't selected battle royale games – particularly Fortnite – at least once a day.
The GTX 980 remains a respectable graphics card; consider keeping it for now while upgrading other components and observing its effectiveness with the new system. Adjust the voltage to 1.212v and experiment to find the maximum core and memory speeds it can achieve. It outperforms a GTX 1060 at its standard settings, and surpasses a GTX 1070 when overclocked. Replacing it is relatively simple if it becomes a limiting factor later on.
