Greetings,

System specifications:
Graphics card: RX 580 Nitro+ 8GB
Processor: Ryzen 2600
Memory: 8GB G.Skill Aegis 3000 DDR4
Storage: 500GB Crucial MX500 SSD
Power supply: Pure Power 11 500W
My computer is relatively new (approximately two months old).
I possess a FreeSync 144+ monitor (Acer KG241p).
My custom resolution is 1440x1080.
Temperatures for my GPU and CPU are within acceptable limits – the maximum reaches 70°C for the GPU and 50°C for the CPU.
I consistently achieve approximately 80 frames per second. However, when playing Fortnite at frame rates between 70 and 95 FPS, it feels sluggish, akin to 30 FPS. Performance improves significantly when I maintain a consistent 144 FPS. Locking the game to 60 FPS, however, results in a noticeably poor and unplayable experience.
This issue isn’t constant, but typically occurs after 2-3 hours or more of gameplay.
Disabling FreeSync appears to resolve the problem considerably, resulting in smoother performance.
Additionally, I’ve noticed that when the game runs, my monitor occasionally reverts to a 120 FPS refresh rate spontaneously during gameplay.
Currently, I’ve primarily focused on playing Fortnite due to limited availability of other games.
Any guidance would be greatly valued.

I’d like to inquire if your system utilizes only one stick of memory. If this is the case, you’re operating in single-channel mode, and I strongly recommend considering adding more RAM—specifically 16GB. Modern high-fidelity games will perform significantly better and run smoother with that amount of memory, and it will also improve Ryzen processor performance by alleviating single-channel limitations. Your power supply unit is currently at the lowest acceptable level, but I wouldn’t prioritize upgrading it until you resolve this primary concern.

I’d like to inquire about your system configuration. Do you possess only a single RAM module? If so, you are operating in single-channel mode. I strongly recommend considering an upgrade to 16GB of RAM, as this will significantly improve the performance and fluidity of modern, graphically demanding games. Furthermore, your power supply unit is currently at its lowest specification, though this isn’t a primary concern until you resolve the existing RAM issue.

Have you checked to see if another setting has been activated, perhaps V-sync? It’s best to disable that.

Thank you for your response. I only have 8GB of RAM.

1. How is it conceivable that, at times (with FreeSync), a game runs smoothly at 70 frames per second and then becomes laggy? My PC monitor consistently displays at 59fps when I begin, and I adjust it to 144Hz each time. Why does Fortnite’s monitor revert to 120fps during gameplay?
