I don’t know the exact method, but you can adjust settings directly within the game or via its configuration options. Changing in-game resolution isn’t supported, so look for in-game menus to modify display settings.

The game's highest resolution is 1600x1200. To achieve larger sizes, modify the file at C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Config\Graphics Rules.sgr and adjust maxResWidth and maxResHeight to match your screen dimensions.
