Reset support for MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus RGB lighting.
Hello, everyone. Essentially, when my PC is under stress, the RGB lights reset briefly to their default rainbow setting. It only lasts a second before returning to normal. This happens regardless of the current configuration. I've even tried turning them off and on again, and they cycle through the rainbow effect and then shut down completely. I'm puzzled about what's causing this. I've connected them to different power headers—eight fans split between two ARGB ports, four chained together and four on a hub. The hub has a SATA port for power, which seems to provide enough voltage. My guess is that overloading the power supply might be triggering the reset, but that doesn't seem logical. I'm getting frustrated and have even unplugged the RGB until I figured it out. It only occurs during heavy use; otherwise, the display stays steady on the desktop without any demanding tasks. I'm working with these specs: MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus, Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB DDR4 3600 RAM, Intel Arc B580, 1TB TEAM SSD for OS, 4TB Samsung SSD for main drive, 1TB Samsung SSD for backups, 750W EVGA power supply, AeroCool D501A case, CachyOS with OpenRGB managing the RGB.
Welcome to the forums! I suspect one of two things is happening: either OpenRGB is running into some bug that's causing it to crash and reset, or, and this sometimes happens on my MSI Z390 Pro A, the BIOS is losing track of what the LEDs are supposed to be doing (be off in this case because it's an HTPC) and fails safely to default settings while it figures it out. I would start with updating BIOS as something might have gotten a bit wonky in there
It seems like the problem is likely related to the BIOS. Updating it might help, but it could also leave you needing an RGB controller.
