Hi, I'm checking laptop offers and hoping to purchase soon, seeking some opinions. Below is a brief summary of what I need:

I need a Windows machine ideal for handling large datasets—like viewing and editing big *.csv or Excel files, running pilot analyses (usually in R), and managing multiple browser tabs. Heavy data processing will be done remotely via Wi-Fi to a computer cluster.

Playing Baldur's Gate 3 or similar games would be a nice touch, though not essential. I’ll often commute with it, so a decent build, reasonable weight, and good battery life would be ideal.

Any suggestions for budget-friendly or more affordable options? Open to other ideas!

Prices:
- $650
- MSI Modern 15
- $750
- Asus Vivobook 15X
- $789
- HP TPN
- $799
- Asus Vivobook 16
- $850
- Dell Inspirion 15

Budget: under $950
Notebook size: 14-15", possibly 16"
Screen resolution: [to be specified]
Portable or desktop? Primary computer, but not strictly desktop needs.
Battery life: over 5 hours
Game play? Baldur's Gate 3 (medium priority)
Other tasks: photo/video editing, basic stats analysis
Storage: at least 1+ TB
Preferred retailers: [to be shared]
Retention period: more than 4 years
Optical drive: DVD ROM/Writer or Bluray ROM/Writer?
Preferred brands and disliked ones with reasons
Location: USA
Any extra details needed?
