I’m looking at some options for upgrading your mom’s computer for Mother’s Day. The main challenge is finding a suitable AM4 motherboard this week. You have two choices: upgrade the existing HP system with an SSD and a secondary hard drive, or install an older 2600k model on her H series 1155 board. The original device might have had issues developing, so I favor the updated setup. Not because she requires faster processing power just for paperwork.

You're considering the updated HP setup, but it seems hard to locate an AM4 board for the 1700 right now. It's frustrating!

I already gave her a new 27-inch monitor for Christmas since her 19-inch was outdated. Faster IPC and a motherboard optimized for SSDs could potentially perform better than her older setup. The improvement is uncertain, though.

It's unlikely to be very obvious for her, honestly. I don't know your mom's age, but people who aren't gamers usually notice more physical changes—like a new screen, keyboard, or mouse—than performance differences. Sure, big jumps like SSDs or moving from old hardware are noticeable, but those are exceptions.
