Checking for a stronger CPU than your I7 7700K, the i9 11900K seems like a solid upgrade. With an RTX 3070, you’ll have great performance for VR and 3D work. The i9 11900K is well-suited for demanding tasks like DCS and development. For optimal results, pair it with a motherboard that supports 3200MHz DDR4.

think about a 12,700k or even 12,600k system paired with a B660 board featuring 2x16 or 4x8GB DDR4 3200 or 3600

The 11900k seems overpriced compared to a 12600k that works better for less money. Anything is possible, but for 3D you need solid single-core performance, so I’d lean toward the 12600k. The ASRock z690 or b660 Pro RS looks like a great budget choice for Alder Lake and it handles 3200mhz.

Alder Lake doesn't support 3600 in all configurations, they prioritized DDR5. My partner's 12600k handles 3200 well, so it's not a major issue.

The 7700K has some limitations, but it remains a strong 3D rendering CPU. It doesn’t require a Windows 11 upgrade—just install it in your UEFI settings and you’re good to go.

Which processor offers the smoother performance for your VR simulator? The I5 12600K or the I7 12700K?

12600k is the price, and the 12700k would match it but be pricier

It would remain consistent regardless of whether you're streaming or not.

It's a ten-core setup. The six hyperthreaded units would easily handle your game, while the four single-threaded ones would be free to handle other tasks. Plus, those hyperthreaded units are nearly twice as quick as the 7700k, and the single-threaded ones are also noticeably faster than the same configuration on an i5 7600k. The main distinction with the 12700k is having two extra hyperthreaded cores that you won't actually use since you'll have more cores than needed.

In theory, a temperature of 12700K might outperform 12600K on a single core with identical clock speeds because it offers a bigger cache. The best performance comes from the 12700F when you ignore its power constraints.
