Updating to the WP8.1 dev preview might affect your basic phone features like internet, calls, texts, and apps. You can switch back to WP8 from WP8.1 if needed. If there are flashing ROMs or other issues, a friend with expertise can help. There are several ways to revert the change if it’s possible. Let me know if you need more details!

Dev preview it's not here yet. I'm sure it will come via OTA like all other WP updates. While installing, you'll not be able to call or receive calls like every other firmware update. You won't lose any app, call log or texts. Even if you do, you can restore the from the cloud. Reverting to amber normally wouldn't be possible, but there is tool called nokia care suite for PC...for Lumias of course.

In short, you want to avoid the WP8.1 dev preview update to keep your calling features intact.

The developer preview delivers the complete Windows 8.1 setup right away, bypassing the need for your mobile carrier's approval. Your device will operate just as usual at first, but once the update is applied, it may behave differently.

It seems the update won't function at all after the change. Once it's updated, it should work fully, or at least with its basic features. No need to worry—just let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for your patience!
