Under Optional – I grasp the concept, by the way – but I found this and couldn’t tell where or what it connects to on AMD’s official site. Anyone know what it actually relates to? Since my graphics driver is the latest non-optional version available, not that Vega56 is ahead in updates. And no, I don’t see another place to check or post to figure it out.

Many users have reported issues with similar updates affecting Radeon Software. It’s likely an outdated or incompatible driver in the Windows Update Catalogue. Disabling driver updates is recommended as they often aren’t the newest versions and can cause problems with GPU drivers.

These are previous GPU drivers that you can add if you encounter issues with the latest version.

Keeping drivers current prevents receiving outdated Windows Update drivers. If updates aren't installed, the system remains supported for older versions. This also aids users in installing new hardware compatible with their setup.

I manage GPU drivers through AMD, often receiving alerts via email—though I no longer install the extra ones. Not relying on cutting-edge parts might reduce the chances of getting misleading suggestions, so I’ll keep this under "errant recommendation." Still, it appears as Optional... it looks like a database issue, given Microsoft’s growing efforts to promote Win11.

Perfectly would be the way it should function, though currently it struggles to fetch the newest or even correct device drivers. Especially with GPUs, it's well-known for reverting GPU drivers. The OP receives the most recent drivers straight from AMD, yet WU continues to supply a driver that may be outdated or incompatible with another product, according to others facing similar problems. I completely grasp the intent behind Windows updates, but when it comes to drivers—particularly for GPUs—it's not something I suggest doing, at least not for this device. Also, turning off driver updates doesn't eliminate the initial device drivers installed by Windows after hardware installation, which still operate correctly. For someone who frequently participates in the forum and recognizes the importance of drivers, it’s reasonable to advise the OP to disable optional driver updates in WU and handle them manually if necessary.

Updates aren't always fresh; they just indicate older versions are still available.

As long as the device I use is compatible with my GPU and runs with WoW, optional drivers from Windows Update or the official site aren't important to me.
