I'm preparing my initial PC setup in roughly ten years. Right now, I'm using a 3570K motherboard and a 1070 GPU. I'm weighing whether to focus on achieving 4K at 60fps with medium or high settings, or to prioritize 1440p Ultra with ray tracing or higher frame rates. My gaming preferences lean toward narrative-driven titles, so I’m considering how each choice aligns with my recent and upcoming game library—like God of War Ragnarock, RE Village, Diablo III, Overwatch, Final Fantasy (not 14), Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, and Horizon Forbidden West. Since most of my gaming has been on consoles lately, I’m uncertain which resolution offers the better experience. With a budget for a 4090 and a 32-inch 4K display, I’d like suggestions that support long-term enjoyment without sacrificing quality.

If you can invest in the necessary equipment, the 4k setup with a 32" screen offers the superior choice. This is due to the abundance of high-quality content at 1080p that maintains good quality when scaled up to 4k, as well as the fact that some users encounter issues on multi-monitor configurations where one monitor is 1440p and others are not. Additionally, a 32" display simply appears sharper in this size. I own three 1440p LG panels, and although they have been satisfactory, I would prefer 4k panels for their higher pixel density at that scale. If my graphics card were more powerful, I might have chosen differently, but I’m already near the limit and will soon need an upgrade.
