Hello
One of the members from the M. Semester 3 family is studying industrial design and needs to set up a system and a laptop for this field. Although he is still learning, he should take responsibility for his work over the next few years. The key industrial design software to consider are the latest versions available in terms of release year: Catia, Solidworks 2023, Autodesk Alias AutoStudio 2024, Autodesk Inventor Pro 2024, AutoCAD, Siemens Solid Edge Premium 2024, Rhinoceros 3D, CREO Elements / ProEngineer, and ZBrush 2023.

Please note that these programs can be either CPU or GPU-based, and some even include plugins like V-RAY, which also depend on the hardware.

My concern is whether a more powerful processor or graphics card is necessary for these applications. Should we opt for RTX 3000 or RTX 4000 cards, or should we choose Quadro series or RTX A3000 to RTX A5000?

Could you provide the minimum specifications of the laptop and system? I’d like it to be affordable yet capable, ideally within a reasonable budget. It would be best if it aligns with the hardware benchmarks mentioned above.

Thank you

My question is, should the processor or graphics card be stronger in these softwares? Each software will have their strengths and weaknesses but a balanced system would help you in the long run. Solidworks 2023 https://www.solidworks.com/support/hardw...ification/ About the same for CATIA; CATIA vs SolidWorks: The Differences It's a parametric design and engineering showdown: CATIA vs. SolidWorks. When I used AutoCAD for architecture, I'd be able to work off the iGPU on an entry level CPU/PC(i3). I request you to introduce the minimum specifications of the laptop and the system. I don't want it to be too expensive, but it should have at least the parts and be affordable, it's better if it's based on the budget FYI, if you intend to hold onto the PC for 4~5 years, you shouldn't be looking at the bare minimum on a PC and a laptop respectively. Given current economic conditions I'm guestimating at least $2,000 on your PC and about the same on the laptop. Please introduce the laptop and the system based on the processor and graphics card benchmarks in the software I mentioned. For these programs such as Solidworks 2023, it is recommended to use Quadro graphics cards, but I also enjoy experimenting with the game setup. If I opt for standard graphics cards like RTX 3050ti or RTX 3060 instead of a quadro card like RTX A3000, will there be any issues with rendering or using these applications?

Among the software I have developed, which ones do you believe require the most powerful system, so I can decide on the right setup? For instance, do Catia and Solidworks need a more robust system, or are there other programs to consider? Please help me.

A great deal relies on how intricate your models are. Creating a PC case requires a different approach compared to building the next Space Shuttle.

The issue is that there are many different programs.
Some rely on single-core speed and more core count.
The same applies to video cards—some require a dedicated work card, others a gaming card would suffice, and some might not need a real card at all.
Generally, a gaming card should handle most programs today. (I won’t check every one.)
EDIT for achieving better results on a LT: consider a more expensive option.

In the initial message, I thoroughly described its purpose and intended audience. Despite this, I haven't received the response I was expecting and am hoping for a knowledgeable expert to provide clarity.

A balanced system is what you need. The CAD, along with the games...they don't clearly favor one over the other. You're seeking that equilibrium.

For the laptop, I suggest an i5-12450H paired with an RTX 3050. If you require a more robust setup, consider upgrading to something stronger. For the system, a more capable processor and graphics card would be beneficial, though not necessarily the absolute top-tier options. The recommended configuration is i7-13800H with an RTX 4080, which provides sufficient performance for university tasks and project work without being overly powerful. This setup should support your needs for at least three to four years during your studies.

The 3050 isn't something I'm interested in. Anything beyond that, paired with that processor, isn't appealing to me.
