Try a different source or method for the mod, as the download seems consistently failing.

Start by removing the Nexus Mod Manager step, then download Mod Manager 2.0. Next, proceed with the remaining instructions. Savor the modding experience. / just half a joke. It seems Nexus is switching to a new mod manager (Vortex), alongside the original creator of Mod Manager 1. The developers behind Mod Manager 1 and MM2 have made their code open source, which I’ve always appreciated for its extensive features. You might want to follow a guide to understand the installation process better. I know this isn’t a direct solution to your query, but it’s something I’m more comfortable with.

You can't simply create a mod folder like in Witcher 3 because the game's structure and licensing restrict that kind of modification.

You might need a mod manager when you want to remove a specific mod without using one. For instance, if you wish to change the texture of tomatoes in the game, you can download a mod containing a "tomatoes_texture" file. If you no longer want that version, you must retrieve the original texture. With a mod manager, you can simply turn off or delete the mod and restore the original files. While you don’t always require one, using it seriously can save you time and frustration.

There are numerous mods available, ranging from simple ones like .esp and .bsa that work independently to more complex ones that alter meshes or textures. A solid setup mod should be able to be placed in your data folder and installed, sometimes replacing original files. This approach is useful for quick and easy modifications.
