He has a 3090 with an NZXT N7 Z690 board, all drivers current and stable. The system runs perfectly until a restart for updates or shutdown takes up to an hour. We suspect a corrupt file, but after using tools like CMD scannow and fixing files online, nothing works. We’re considering a full reset, but the restore option is disabled by default in Windows. Any advice would be appreciated.

If the issue is severe, perform a fresh installation, clear the drives, and start over. Avoid a reset.

He received it as a pre-built version from NZXT. I don’t want to add too much pressure on him, thanks for the response. Maybe I could handle it for him instead. Appreciate the quick reply!

A system restore is now straightforward. As long as you save your files, you can easily reinstall Windows via the settings menu. If that doesn’t work, updating with a fresh image might be useful. But let’s address your concern—have you reviewed the Windows system logs to identify any issues during shutdown?

I'll check the system logs after I call him tomorrow. Appreciate the heads up!
