Hello, I recently purchased an i7 4790k to avoid performance limits with my Christmas 1660ti. It arrived yesterday. Unfortunately, I've encountered numerous problems, and I'm concerned about their cause. I have an i7 4790k and a 1660ti, but I'm using an MSI Z97 PC Mate motherboard, a Cooler Master G550M power supply, and 8GB of G.Skill RAM. The main issues are stability-related. When I manage to boot into Windows (sometimes it won't even boot into BIOS), it runs for 1-10 minutes before freezing or crashing. I've run CPUID during crashes, and temperatures are around 60-65°C, which is high but not extreme. I ordered a 212 EVO to handle that heat. To make matters worse, Halo MCC ran for a full match without crashing, but it did so unpredictably a couple of minutes after stopping. Sometimes it freezes without unfreezing, and I've seen blue screens with the "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR" code.

I've tried many fixes: reseating components, reapplying thermal paste, reinstalling CPU, adjusting BIOS turbo settings, disabling XMP, changing IDE/AHCI SATA modes, running chkdsk, resetting CMOS, reinstalling drivers, and a few more I didn't remember. I'll share screenshots of the Windows Reliability Monitor results. If you can quickly guide me through Event Viewer or crash dump files, that would be great. Thanks a lot.

Place the previous CPU back in. Reset CMOS. Refresh BIOS. Wipe CMOS again. Set up the new CPU. Follow these steps in sequence.

Thanks for waiting! I'm updating the BIOS now. It might take some time since I'm feeling under the weather and need to rest.

Likely had it overclocked for about five years. Keep it at stock and boost the voltage slightly to observe the results.

Updated the BIOS and converted it to Windows smoothly, which is great, though the system remains slow and freezes when idle temperatures stay between 40-45 degrees.

I’m still facing the same problems despite the voltage check. Mister Woof recommended it again.

Did you attempt a new Windows 10 setup occasionally during CPU installation? It might lead to some issues.

The processor supports a maximum operating temperature of 72°C. You are experiencing overheating problems.
