Current setup: 5800x3d (updated in April) Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 EVGA 3080 Ti Copper (new in April) Asus x570-E Mobo Corsair RM1000x PSU (new in April) Custom liquid cooling loop. Issue: System frequently freezes during VGA POST or white light mode. Restarting several times can sometimes resolve it, occasionally after two attempts or more. Successful restarts may display a loading screen, followed by video signal loss, Windows 11 startup sound, but no video output. What has been done so far: The problem began in March when I cleaned the custom water loop and removed the old GPU. After dozens of restarts, the system stopped responding and returned to VGA codes with white light. I bought a new 3080 Ti Copper from eBay and a 5800x3d (after trying multiple loops). I also got a new RM1000x PSU after confirming the old one couldn’t handle the power needs. Initially thought RAM was the culprit, but after installing half of my 64GB, the boot issue disappeared. BIOS updated to the latest in mid-April. No Windows reinstalls yet, though I’m considering it since it’s the last resort. Testing options: 1080 Ti, 2080 Ti Super (RMA card), 2015 system with Core i7 5820K and 980X CPU. I’m uncertain where to start. Given the new components, it’s less likely the hardware is faulty. The GPU swap could help, but since the issue is intermittent, the motherboard might be involved. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Verify your GPU and RAM on your X99 machine. I believe the issue likely lies with the motherboard. If it can't detect or start with all your RAM, that usually suggests a CPU or motherboard fault. Consider other problems with a stable GPU, which would point to the motherboard. Unrelated: As someone who loves Intel HEDT, I'm happy to congratulate you on maintaining your 5820K X99 configuration. The members in the Intel HEDT forum would probably enjoy seeing what you have, even if it's not currently in use.
The usual advice is to wait until performance noticeably drops before checking for GPU issues, especially without water cooling.
It shouldn't be a big worry. Just let it run for a while to check if the system sends the right signals and if everything shows up correctly in the BIOS. It should take about a minute or two.
