This occurs and I’m unsure how to resolve it. I used the dconf editor to obtain the dock with a darker background that covers the screen, but after changing application icons and restarting, it returned to the dock I previously set up. How can I fix this? Additionally, I have the Dash to Dock extension. Updated August 1, 2019 by SafyreLyons-5LT More info

Great news you solved the issue. Since Ubuntu already has a customized Dash to Dock setup, using the standard version leads to conflicts. For smooth normal d2d performance, it's best to switch to the vanilla gnome desktop instead of Ubuntu Desktop.
