My machine crashed recently. Windows attempted an update last Friday but froze mid-installation. This has been my first major issue with Windows in years. After a reset it seemed to recover and function properly. Recently, after work, a program began behaving oddly, so I restarted my computer. Restarts often led to blue screens displaying DPC watchdog violations and system locks requiring hard resets. Sometimes the machine would become stuck in a reset cycle. When troubleshooting, the DPC error could stem from hardware issues or driver conflicts. Despite having a solid SSD with good crystal disk readings, I’ve faced repeated failures. After several attempts to fix it, I’m now trying to reinstall Windows. The first try crashed during installation, and even after a Windows recovery attempt before loading, it failed again. Today I managed to open BIOS and adjust settings, but the splash screen kept appearing. I’m considering updating the BIOS, though I’m hesitant due to the persistent splash issue.

After a second night of rest, I'm convinced the issue lies with either the motherboard or the power supply. It won’t even reach the USB installation spots. I have an old silverstone PSU from my last build that I can try out. If it’s not the PSU and the board is damaged, would I be okay flashing the BIOS? Could there be another component involved? This is my machine: Amd 5900 Rog hero viii with four 8GB drives, TeamGrouo xtreem, Sabrent 4TB SSD boot, Sabrent 4TB SSD secondary drive, and an Nvidia 3080ti GPU. The new WiFi adapter is Corsair RX850, and the PSU is connected to my Razer Hunchball keyboard and DeathAdder mouse.

It might be a disk issue. Retrieve the OS drive and test the secondary one.

On the initial day of issues, I managed to open Windows long enough to review the disk information, and the drive appeared normal. Still, could there be an underlying issue?

I also checked sfc /scannow and got no issues. My main worry is whether flashing the BIOS might damage the motherboard if I can’t reach the Windows installation screen through USB without a crash.

Attempted to use a BIOS flashback. It flashed three times before stabilizing in blue. After 20 minutes it remained unchanged. When I entered BIOS, nothing had changed. I saw someone else do it on the same board and the flashback eventually finished. The USB drive was formatted as fat 32, and all instructions from ASUS were followed. What’s going wrong with my system?

I managed to update my BIOS, but it’s telling me there are no bootable devices detected. That suggests the C drive might be damaged or inaccessible. It could also mean Windows can’t be recovered from it.

You might want to check if your RAM sticks are being detected correctly.
