Repeated stuttering and flickering causing a black screen + occasional program crashes (once).
I recently upgraded my machine from a 2070 Super to a 3080. Before replacing any components, I experienced stuttering problems, so I went ahead with the full system upgrade without adding RAM. Once assembled and initialized, I still faced stuttering in a completely new Windows version. I tested games with and without audio, but the issue remained. I attempted to enable XMP settings and turned them off, yet stutters continued. When I re-enabled XMP, my monitor would briefly go black during gameplay—causing freezes in Discord and even Google Chrome. I wasn’t sure if the problem was related to the GPU or RAM, since I switched back to XMP. The GPU also occasionally spikes to 100% and then drops. I’d really appreciate any suggestions: what programs should I run for testing? Any tips would help. Also, I play all games at 3440 x 1440 resolution, so I’m wondering if certain software supports that setting accurately. I considered returning the card but wanted to be sure first. Temperatures reached 70°C on the CPU during intense loading in games like Project Zomboid, dropping to 50-60°C otherwise; the GPU stayed around 70-75°C. My hardware specs are: Windows 10 Home 64-bit, MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK, Intel i7 12700K (boosted only), two 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3200 modules at XMP, an RTX 3080 12GB, a Corsair MP600 Pro XT 1TB M.2, and a Corsair RMx 2021 1000W 80+ Gold.
