Repeated crashes on my recently assembled gaming PC are becoming a recurring issue.
I recently assembled my initial gaming setup with the following specs: Motherboard - MSI B550 Gaming Carbon Wi-Fi CPU, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, RAM - Corsair LPX 3200 MHz 2x16, Storage - Crucial 1 TB P1 SSD, GPU - Corsair RM750, Power Supply - Gigabyte GeForce® RTX 2070 SUPER™ WINDFORCE OC 3X 8G, PSU - Corsair RM750. The machine booted up successfully right away and operated smoothly until I attempted to download several titles via Steam. The first issue appeared with Battlefield 1, displaying "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED". I looked up the error online and attempted registry adjustments, but these didn’t resolve the problem. Now instead of crashes or warnings, the PC would freeze during gameplay with no keyboard or mouse input, though I could still hear background sounds. The freezes were unpredictable, occurring mainly with Battlefield 1 and FIFA 21 (both from Origin), while other titles like CSGO and Rainbow Siege 6 worked perfectly. I suspected an Origin-related issue but couldn’t fix it, so I moved on to other games. The problem persisted with Shadow of the Tomb Raider, GTA 5, and RDR2. I tried several solutions: uninstalling in-game overlays with memtest64, verifying installations via Steam, using DDU to reinstall the GPU driver in safe mode, running benchmark tests that showed normal performance, switching GPU power cables from single to dual (the card needs both 6-pin and 8-pin), disabling XMP settings, and even underclocking the GPU by 200MHz using MSI afterburner (though it was a factory model). I also turned off XMP since I’m new to PC troubleshooting. Despite trying most fixes, I’m uncertain what further steps to take. Since errors are rare and the PC still runs fine in some games, I’m unsure how to proceed. I’m cautious about sending the GPU back for an RMA because I live in a small town in India, and even if they fix the issue, I’d be stuck with a non-functional system. Could you share any statistics or details about what was expected? Thank you.
It appears the harder the game, the higher the chance it occurs. You mentioned it's manageable on CS and R6S, but issues arise with tougher titles like BF1, Tomb Raider, and Read Dead 2. Could overheating be the cause? What are your current temperatures?
You're likely correct. I was assuming your parts would stop working when they overheat, sending you back to the home screen. However, your temperatures aren't at that level. Be honest, I'm not very familiar with this and don't want to give you incorrect guidance—so someone more experienced would be better. Good luck!
