Hi there. I bought an ASRock X670E Taichi and it’s fine, but then something went wrong. As others with this board know, the stand-off isn’t included for the M2_2 slot—you have to install it yourself. I found a Wera Hex 5.5mm tool that seemed to fit perfectly, so I tried screwing it into the CT10 point. But it didn’t fit snugly enough, and the stand-off spun around while I tightened it, eventually getting stuck against the tool’s surfaces. I managed to pull it out and removed the screw from the motherboard. For clarity, I’ve attached some photos of the situation. The board still functions perfectly; nothing’s damaged. All other M.2 slots are working fine. The second PCIe slot won’t work with an NVMe adapter because a 4090 would block it. I’m planning to fix the stand-off screw in point and install a new M.2 NVMe SSD (which I already have). What’s your best approach? Any advice on repairing this? Thanks, meson1

If I were you, a small amount of superglue on the insert would be sufficient. Avoid going too far so it creates a mess, but just enough to secure the screw and touch the motherboard PCB.

The gap is too large for the M.2 drive to stay stable, so it doesn’t actually keep it secure. The drive won’t move much.

to ensure the drive stays secure, consider using a longer threaded section and install the original insert, then reinforce it from the back with a nut. Another method is purchasing a matching machine screw from a hardware store and adding extra hardware or printing a custom spacer to fit the height provided by the standoff. Alternatively, you could buy a 22110 NVMe SSD, though it may be more expensive and unnecessary if your drive already exists. Adhesive might also work as a temporary solution. I’m curious if there are M.2 heatsinks with compatible mounting holes that could help secure the drive without buying new parts.

If your main goal is just to fasten the M.2 device, you could simply wrap it with a rubber band. Shape the band into an 8 or figure 8 pattern to reduce its size, then push one end through the hole and secure it onto the motherboard using an insulated material—such as a spacers larger than the hole. On top, place a rubber loop so that once the M.2 drive is in place, you can insert another insulated piece through the loop to keep the SSD firmly in position.

Thanks for the ideas. The ASRock X670E Taichi comes with covers on the back of the motherboard. You can’t reach the back without taking it apart. The m.2 slot has a sturdy rubber shield that helps secure the card, as shown in the original image. There’s also a top cover available. If the SSD is stuck between the cover and the bumper, the stand-off mainly keeps it in the slot. What I really need is a way to hold the SSD inside its socket—maybe even just a string. I’m still looking into attaching the stand-off securely. It seems there might be better options than what’s shown.

Because it's just a simple clamp, you can always use a bracket that allows the SSD to fit into one of the longer supports. https://www.ebay.com/itm/404224231045 Begin with fasteners by hand, so you avoid making cross-thread errors.

The string might look a bit odd when connected properly. If you're really worried, you can try something similar so you can adjust the size and use the other inserted part (CT11) in your motherboard PDF. Just remember, if superglue feels too tough, you can always ask for help from r/techsupportmacgyver or similar communities.

I installed the m.2 stand-off into the CT11 slot on the motherboard manually this time. I trimmed the excess from the extension at the perforated areas using two pairs of pliers. This wasn't a tough task, but I was very careful and precise. These components are inexpensive, yet it took me two weeks to receive them, and I didn’t want another delay. Now the m.2 is firmly in place and the heatsink cover is attached. I didn’t take photos of the installation, but here’s a picture of the extension. If anyone uses these, consider placing something under the m.2 to provide support, as the connection can flex without any obstruction. My motherboard already had a rubber bumper beneath the stick, so no extra support was needed. Thanks for your assistance, and I hope this post helps someone facing a similar problem.
