The reality isn't what it seems. Matte surfaces are difficult to repair. They don't behave like a glossy finish that can be polished. Occasionally applying touch-up paint with a fine brush can improve the appearance, but matching them accurately is challenging. When the coating is thick enough to sand, some people attempt "paint correction" using fine sandpaper (1200/1500 grit) and typically sand wet. There are methods to refine this process, though it rarely results in a perfect outcome. It's also possible to sand through the paint if you're not cautious. Without visual references, my first suggestion would be to repaint or accept the look.
