Removing an outdated AMD processor is a big task!
Found an old Phenom II and thought about disassembling it for a peek at the die. It wasn’t a good idea—AMD definitely used solder back then. The CPU was already dead when I started, but I figured others might find it interesting.
It was a Phenom game, a popular platformer developed by Phantom Law.
The AMD Phenom II X4 955 stopped working long ago after a friend powered it up without the cooler connected. It took us a while to realize the issue.
It's always enjoyable to clean out a chip! I've removed multiple Phenom I and II chips together with FX. Soldering them all done great. You'll need a torch to heat the IHS plate and melt the solder. Good thing for next time then!
