Hey there. When I first changed the Wraith cooler to an AIO, I accidentally pulled my CPU out of the socket. After a bit of stress and carefully adjusting a pin, I discovered (just kidding, no notes) that the material on the CPU interacts with silver in the thermal paste and forms a seal. Now I’m hooked on custom water cooling and planning my first loop. With this 240mm AIO, my 2700X runs between 35-45°C at idle, and I think a 360mm radiator would be better. Here are some diagnostics to give you an idea: I’m excited but really nervous about damaging the board or CPU again when swapping the AIO for a waterblock. My questions are: Have others faced this issue with AMD CPUs? What solutions worked for them? How can I avoid breaking the motherboard or CPU? Back then, I took it to a local repair shop because they had isopropyl alcohol. But I’m doing it myself now—just need solid info. Thanks ahead! He demonstrated this in a recent video. Usually take out the cooler when it's warm and twist it softly after removing the mounts, rather than pulling. Idle temperatures don't count; it's the load temps that are important. When idle, you generally prefer silence over temperature concerns.

I'd feel much more assured when temperatures drop below 35°C. That would let me reduce the fan curve for quieter performance. Plus, I'd love to experiment and personalize it. Unfortunately, I'll have to check that video though—thanks!

From an engineering standpoint, reducing idle lowers performance. Your setup with 50% idle and 50% load is ideal. No heat cycling means better CPU efficiency. With 20% idle and 100% load, you're experiencing significant heat cycling, which is detrimental. Honestly, your current AIO is excessive and a custom loop won't make much difference. Your i7 runs at 60% idle, which is already optimal for today's CPUs.

It seems the issue might be related to the thermal paste on the stock cooler. During the replacement process for a Fuma 2, I faced difficulty removing it, so I twisted the cooler carefully. Using Arctic Silver MX-4 resolved the problem when installing an M.2 SSD. If you used non-GLUE paste, it shouldn’t cause trouble.

I don’t recall the paste used. It was something I grabbed while purchasing the AIO. I intend to try liquid metal this time. This is useful information. I’ll shift the blame to the original cooler.

They're quite durable, lasting well beyond 15 years even at those speeds. Lifespan drops significantly above 90 with heavy use, but it can still exceed 10 years. Beyond 100, you'll notice noticeable wear and faster degradation.
