Hello, On Windows 10 Version 1903 the on-screen volume bar indicator has shifted to show the app I'm adjusting the volume for. For instance, when Chrome is open, a large block next to it displays "chrome.exe" with prominent play/pause buttons. This is quite bothersome because it obscures a lot of the content I'm watching. It's difficult to capture a screenshot of it for some reason. Is there a way to hide or remove this? I've checked the Settings already and haven't found a solution. I installed Windows 10 Version 1903 about two weeks ago and didn't notice this change until a week later. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Have you explored adjusting the sound settings? You might discover what you're looking for in the advanced options. Use the search feature for audio, located at the top of the page.

This feature was first added in Windows 8. Since then nothing has altered. When an app decides to share its media and artwork with Windows, you’ll see the box next to the volume bar (Media Overlay Controls). Moreover, the operating system can transmit audio commands to the app (play/pause next/prev). What has shifted is Microsoft’s inclusion of Media Overlay Controls in the Chromium web browser. Essentially, it enables the browser to relay audio-related info from the last focused tab to Windows, allowing play/pause functions to work. Google has chosen to incorporate this Microsoft contribution into its Chrome browser as well. When using Chromium Edge, you’ll notice YouTube thumbnails, titles, and channel names appear when watching videos from YouTube. To stop this behavior, check the Chrome flags page (chrome://flags) and disable Media Session Service. Restarting the browser will apply the changes.
