I rely on the MS RDP application on my iPhone and iPad to link with both my home server and gaming PC. This has been a consistent experience over several years, functioning smoothly with its touch interface. It lets me manage my Plex server, backups, and other tasks effectively. The connection is limited to the local network—no remote or external access is enabled. Initially, I connected using the device names of the PCs, <Xserver> and <XPC>, without issues. Recently, however, the RDP app stopped responding, displaying an error similar to when the PC is powered off. Even though I confirm the PC is on and reachable via ping, I still can’t establish a connection. Using the IP addresses works correctly, so the problem likely lies with the mobile device or its app. Connecting through names remains stable, but the mobile side is problematic. This indicates an issue on the mobile end, though I’m unsure of the exact cause. I’m seeking advice on troubleshooting the PC and network side without making any recent changes. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Good choice, appreciated. Both iPhone and iPad are configured to use automatic DNS when connected to the home network. My PCs also have LAN connections that don’t specify any DNS settings—they rely on default DNS servers, though they do list IP addresses.
