Reinstalling Windows. Basic inquiry.
Hey there. Sorry if this seems a bit odd, but I've found it tricky to install or remove Windows. I'm getting a new motherboard soon and need to reinstall a retail version. I'm wondering how to disable my activation key and uninstall Windows so it can be reinstalled properly with the new board. Should I just run the key remover and then overwrite the same partition when it asks to reinstall? Let me know if you can help!
I assumed it wanted the key during Windows setup prior to adding your account. Not sure if that's correct.
it does, but there's also an option that says "I don't have a key" which is basically "I will activate this product later"
You can now bypass the initial key entry. When you open the OS later, it will ask if you want to purchase a new key or turn off the existing motherboard.
I simply log in with my account, and it works perfectly. Reinstalling on a Windows system will just replace the existing files.
1) If the motherboard isn't being altered, it will turn on itself automatically. No action is required—no keys needed.
2) When switching the motherboard, like upgrading to a new PC, follow these steps: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help...are-change
