Refurbished 2nd generation Xeon E5-2650v3 with ASRock RACK EP2C612D16C-4L – General upgrade inquiry
I received today another Noctua NH-D9DX i4 3U CPU cooler for a refurbished Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3. After installation, the BIOS displays only two-letter codes and doesn’t function properly—LEDs don’t illuminate at all. I removed the CPU fan and placed the refurbished CPU in its socket, following the 2011 design. I changed the dimmer settings to just two 32 LEDs, but they only worked on one CPU. It seems the CPU might be faulty or there’s an issue with the power supply, though it’s rated at 860 Watts. I suspect a hidden component on the motherboard. Despite troubleshooting, the BIOS reset didn’t resolve the problem. I think I misplaced the dimmer in a white socket instead of blue, and clearing the BIOS didn’t help. I placed one dimmer in the blue slot, another outside it, and put the second CPU in a blue slot at the bottom—though I expected it to go on top. I’m wondering if moving the graphics card to an ASUS ROG 4070 Ti OC would be better, as the DR debug LED appears to light up with green lights when testing the second refurbished Xeon. These CPUs will likely create a bottleneck for the graphics card. I plan to purchase a gaming motherboard CPU cooler and memory soon. I need a motherboard that can accommodate both the graphics card and one of those 4xSSD PCI Express cards.
Fortunately, I didn't have to re-type that again because my internet was acting up. It might be a maintenance issue again.
Maybe dumb questions but I mean no offense: - you sure the new CPU is same model of the old one, right? - since you only have 2 DIMM, did you install one DIMM per CPU? Which slot? A photo might explain it better. I don't think you should use the white slots until all blue slots are full. - try other blue slots - blow the CPU socket 2 and its RAM slots clean with canned air, maybe the socket 2 has dust from not being used. - check the S-Spec code and stepping of both CPU. For dual CPU, matching stepping might be needed. - put the new CPU in socket 1, keep socket 2 empty. If that works, add the old CPU to socket 2.
Also check if it's 62 or 29. See the page you mentioned – Model EP2C612D16C has a chipset initialization error. Try resetting or clearing CMOS. 29 relates to memory issues; reinstall the CPU and RAM, then clear CMOS again. If that doesn't fix it, consider using only one memory module or switching to another. Since clearing CMOS didn't help, it's likely 29. Adding a second CPU would have added those parts to your setup: the second CPU, its socket, PCB traces, RAM slots, and RAM sticks. The stick you have seems from an older configuration, so it should be fine.
That shouldn't matter as long as that's a blue one. The reason behind this blue-white thing is: Two slots of the same channel are chained by PCB traces. The outer slot must be populated before the inner one. Otherwise the PCB traces between the two slots can act as little antennas, causing interference. Slots of different channels don't share traces, so there's usually no rule about which channel is populated first.
That 62 is not the error code I get this is just a picture I had just showing which part I ment on the mobo, there is nothing when I put the cpu in the socket and power on. That is the weirdest thing, other led's are burning green, but not the dr debug thing. I just made a RMA already because the shop I got it from is open (reachable) today again. The processor costs only 30 euro almost 40 including little shipping costs, they have different prices for different processors. <- Sorry I ment they have different prices for the same processor, they also sell them from Dell etc. Btw if the steppings dont match, wouldn't it still want to boot ? Maybe it isn't only stable or something. When I leave the second dimm in the ram slot for the second cpu and the second cpu out of the socket the system just works, it only sees 32 Gig instead of 64 but I am not 100% sure anymore but it can't see the second dimm you should think that would be impossible because the other 8 dimms slots are only for the second cpu socket, So I only do 1 thing more put the cpu in the socket and close it again even without a cooler, and the system doesn't work anymore. Weird that 2 green led's just stay on 1 is always blinking I think. It is blinking now under neath the video card. the other on is near where the power connector from the PSU is located. I did make 2 video's the shortest video is without the second cpu installed but already the dimm installed https://photos.app.goo.gl/1yz9pQB4q8xNE8as5 This one is with the cpu installed https://photos.app.goo.gl/VR2PHtcSYqVxV3K67 There is only slightly a visible how is it called maybe it is a little scratch or something on the bottom, but there are no pins anymore on processors or not visible anymore ? Ah I have a LGA socket, so the pins are on the mobo. Land grid array - Wikipedia
