r7 1700 was purchased at launch with a B350, primarily for gaming at 1080p and 75hz. Now I require three more PCs—two for non-gaming use (web browsing, YouTube) and one for gaming. I might consider a 3300x model for non-gaming, though it could be faster than the 1700 in certain games. It feels odd that someone should stick with the 1700, almost like an AMD FX from back then.

3300x isn't commonly found, making it less ideal for direct comparisons. For a new build, I'd recommend at least 6 cores with 2600 MHz unless the budget is very limited. If you can locate one, a 3400G or the 4350G from AliExpress would be a reasonable investment.
Gaming remains enjoyable for many players, so an upgrade might not be necessary. The 3300X offers improved memory handling (Infinity Fabric) and responds well, especially when paired with 3600MHz RAM. They handle many games smoothly without heavy multitasking.
