I think Linus might have talked about this app before but I'm not sure if he actually used it recently since it launched. Besides ease of use, what makes it better than FileZilla? I know at least one device needs to be online and share a folder on the network for syncing. I also read through the terms of service and found something confusing—even though your data is encrypted during transfer, it seems Sync admins could access your files anytime and copy or delete them without reason. The claim about avoiding legal issues is questionable; they either didn't mention it or were hiding something. Since this is now a paid service, my reaction is:  Thoughts?

A possible advantage of using it instead of FTP is quicker data transfers. They don’t handle your files directly, so they can’t improve much on their own; they just offer the service.

I previously transferred media between my Linux laptop, Android phone, and a Windows PC. It was significantly quicker than using external HDDs or USB drives. Much simpler than setting up a home network solely for file sharing. It could even be set up on a NAS, turning it into a reliable backup solution since files would sync precisely as changes occur. I’m not overly concerned about NSA in this cold climate—my dual firewall would need to be as strong as any hacker to access my media. All sensitive transfers are handled via USB.
