At idle the CPU won't reach 3.8; it will lower its speed to conserve energy. For gaming, a 10600K is just as effective. If you want lower power usage, consider reducing the voltage on the K and they tend to handle it more efficiently.

I believe it's enough to reduce the multiplier to 29. I'm not sure about the boost settings. If you're looking to cut electricity costs, consider the Ryzen 3700X. No need for downclocking.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll go with the K version and experiment with the voltage and multiplier settings. The 3700X looks promising, but I need the integrated GPU that fits my current build. David

It sounds like you're interested in an 8-core processor featuring integrated graphics. You'd like to see AMD release a chip comparable to the latest I7 series.
